Pregnancy

Pregnancy brings about great changes both physically and emotionally. Although it is often a time of great joy and hope, worry and anxiety can arise about the future and especially where there has previous miscarriage or baby loss.

The following pregnancy related conditions can be safely managed with acupuncture:

  • Morning sickness, heartburn, constipation

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Insomnia

  • Anaemia

  • Fatigue and exhaustion

  • Back ache, sciatica, carpal tunnel, symphysis pubis pain

  • UTI’s, vaginal discharge and itching

  • Pregnancy induced hypertension

How often will I need treatment?

For the above conditions a weekly treatment is recommended. The number of treatments required will depend on how you respond. Your symptoms will be reviewed at each session.

Treatment for small for dates babies (intrauterine growth retardation) and breech presentation both require a treatment in clinic but subsequent treatments can be carried out at home with the use of a moxa stick. A demonstration of the ‘at home’ treatment, written instructions and a moxa stick/s will be provided in your treatment session.

Pre-birth acupuncture from 37 weeks (preparing for labour)

This consists of a weekly treatment from 37 weeks until labour commences to help ripen the cervix, loosen the pelvis, descend the baby, manage any other health conditions and calm any anxieties.

Induction of labour

A treatment to encourage labour if you are post term or faced with a medical induction. A session every other day for 3 days or every couple of days is recommended.

Post-natal conditions

The following complaints can also be supported with acupuncture:

  • Persistent lochial discharge

  • Urinary problems

  • Constipation & haemorrhoids

  • Breast feeding issues

  • Depression
